day 5

Merzouga - Tineghir - Todra Gorges - Skoura

After an early wake up to enjoy the scene of the sun rising over the sand dunes, we will have breakfast and drive out of the Sahara desert towards Skoura. Our journey will first take us through a series of lush oases where we will see remnants of Khettara's medieval irrigation systems as well as some local farming activities. We will stop at Tineghir, a stunning oasis at the foot of the high Atlas Mountains. From there we will drive along this enchanting valley where we will take some extraordinary pictures. We will enjoy a walk through the 984 foot deep Todra Gorge, home to a variety of rare plant and bird species. In the afternoon we begin our journey along the "Route of the Thousand Kasbahs". This is a region of fortresses made of earth with elaborately decorated facades that make this technique and architectural style unique to this part of southern Morocco. We will drive through "The Valley of the Roses" and El Kelaa M'gouna, the "Rose Capital" of Morocco before reaching the palm grove of Skoura.

Night at Skoura Ksar El Kabbaba.
