O ctober 1, 2021 marks a before and after in trips to the United Kingdom, since Spanish citizens and the rest of the member states of the European Union will need a passport to access British territory, the DNI is no longer valid unless for those who are registered as residents, who will be able to use it until December 31, 2025. The change, according to British government sources, is part "of a package of measures on the new operation of the British border after the end of the transition period " established after Brexit.

After the United Kingdom permanently separated from the European Union on January 1, 2021, it was still possible to enter the country without restrictions. Citizens of the European Union and Switzerland can now visit the UK with a passport and without a visa for up to six months if they are traveling for tourism, to see family or friends, study or for business activities such as conferences.
Those people who spend more time in the country must apply for a visa for work, studies, health and assistance or global talent. As far as the driving license is concerned, Spanish tourists will be able to use it without any problem, while residents will be able to exchange it for the British one without having to take another exam. The European health card can continue to be used in the United Kingdom, while roaming is no longer effective and British telephone companies can apply roaming charges.
On the other hand, starting at 4 a.m. on October 4, the United Kingdom will simplify the bureaucracy to access the country in relation to the restrictions established by the pandemic, since it will eliminate the color traffic light system that it had established in May and will stop requesting a mandatory prior test from people who have the complete vaccination schedule (14 days before), who must show the Covid passport.
